Dr. Ann offers counseling to address many different kinds of problems. Below are some resources related to some of her services. If you aren’t sure what you need, just get in touch.

Individual Counseling

The person who needs to change is you. You may be suffering an illness (ie, depression, anxiety, addiction); want to change a character trait (ie, anger or procrastination); have a difficult decision to make; or are simply confused about your life.

Addiction is both a physical and mental illness. Your body responds inappropriately to certain substances/behaviors and your thinking becomes irrational. Addictions are hard to recover from by yourself. Twelve Step programs are very helpful; however, there are other support systems if you prefer. Hypnosis can also be useful.

Anger Problems

Can be an individual or relationship issue. Anger is normal; becomes problematic when it is excessive, out of control, harmful to self or those you care about.

Worrying all the time. Feeling like you are jumping out of your skin. IBS/Stomach Problems. Racing thoughts. Problems sleeping.

Bipolar Disorder

Alternately feeling high, wired, full of energy and sad, hopeless and deeply depressed. Bipolar disorder is a neurological brain disorder involving extremes of mood.

Childhood/Family of Origin Issues

Suffering from the aftermath of childhood sexual, physical, or emotional abuse/lack of nurturing/substance abusing parents/divorce. Studies show that witnessing family violence may be as harmful to the child as direct abuse.

Creative Issues

Hypnosis and other energy therapies work very well in enhancing creativity and dissolving blocks.

Feeling miserable: Sadness, hopelessness, emptiness, lack of energy, sleeping all the time, wanting to die, lack of pleasure, lack of meaning.

Domestic Violence

Dr. Ann is experienced in the assessment and treatment of both male and female perpetrators of violence as well as victims of domestic violence.

Eating Disorders

Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating, Obseity. Treatment for adolescents and adults.

Financial Problems

Providing tools to deal with stress resulting from financial issues, whether they result from job loss, financial reversals, compulsive spending/gambling, family demands, or other situations. May impact the person individually or interpersonally.

Difficulty dealing with loss.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders

The individual who suffers from OCD becomes trapped in a pattern of repetitive thoughts and behaviors that are senseless and distressing but extremely difficult to overcome.

Panic Attacks

Feelings of terror that strike suddenly and repeatedly with no warning. You may genuinely believe you’re having a heart attack or stroke, losing your mind, or on the verge of death. You can’t predict when an attack will occur, and may develop intense anxiety between episodes, worrying when and where the next one will strike. There are very successful tools, both medical and non-medical, for managing panic attacks.

Sexual Identity

Discovering your sexual orientation.

Life seems empty, meaningless/anger at God/lack of spiritual sustenance/guilt/a desire to grow spiritually. Whatever your spiritual orientation, you may find the Google Spiritual Based Counseling Directory helpful.

May show up as anxiety, depression, irritability, physical problems, inability to concentrate, decrease in work performance.

Victims of a crime/childhood abuse/tragedy/assault/witness of assault/war.

Relationships Counselling

Problems involve you and someone else: spouse/partner/child/parents/in-laws/friend/peer.

Abusive Relationships

When a relationship endangers you: Deciding when to stay and when to go/Leaving safely/Gathering the strength to go/Making a new life.

Marriage/Couples Counseling

Accept the ways you are different/Respect each other’s emotional needs/Create greater intimacy/Defuse arguments/What to do when your partner refuses to change.

Dealing with problems with your teen: substance abuse/teen sexuality/depression/cutting/eating disorders/conduct disorder/destructive relationships.

Energy therapies

Energy therapies are newly developed (although often based on very old knowledge) methods for dealing with mental and emotional problems. Energy therapies often work very rapidly and are effective in dealing with a variety of problems. They are person-specific (what works for one doesn’t necessarily work for another); more passive than active (treatment is accomplished more by mental activity than physical activity); often do not make sense logically; and may look very silly when you are doing them. In general, energy therapies are more powerful than other types of change mechanisms and can cause multidimensional change with little conscious effort on the part of the client.

There are a large number of energy therapies available, some of which are provided by non mental health practitioners, for example massage, cranial sacral work, Reike and so on. Dr. Ann is trained in and primarily uses four.

Breath Work

A deep breathing method which enables you to move through emotion/negative patterns quickly, whether or not you understand the source of the pattern consciously. Can cause profound change on all levels.

Eye Movement Desensitization

Originally developed as a method of rapidly treating PTSD with combat veterans, eye movement therapy is effective for a variety of trauma related issues, phobias, and fears. It is simple and can be taught for you to use at home.

Uses the power of the subconscious mind to effect change. Can be used for habit control (ie, smoking); sexual issues (ie, performance anxiety; lack of sexual desire); study and concentration issues; shyness and social anxiety; stress; procrastination; regressions; and a variety of other problems. Everyone can be hypnotized; in fact, hypnosis is a natural state you move in and out of daily, usually without being aware of it. Hypnosis is also a learned skill: you get better at it over time. Another advantage of hypnosis is that Dr. Ann doesn’t need to know the details of your problem for therapy to be effective: it gives you greater privacy than some other kinds of therapy. Dr. Ann is nationally certified as a clinical hypnotherapist by NBCCH.

Past Life Regressions

Guided visualization designed to identify and release the source of a relationship/problem/pattern.

Thought Field Therapy

Involves the client tapping on various parts of their body (primarily the face and hands) in order to rapidly move through negative emotional states. Thought field therapy is very good for repeated emotional patterns like resentment, anxiety, jealousy, loneliness, grief, fear, obsessive thinking, and even procrastination.

Sex therapy

You are having difficulty with your sexuality. Perhaps you have been sexually abused, have a sexual addiction, pornography is a problem, your sex life just isn’t working, or you have issues related to gender or sexual identity.
